The Vallado ABF was aged for over 120 years and bottled in 2016 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Quinta do Vallado. ABF is a tribute to the ancestor of the present owners of the farm, António Bernardo Ferreira I, who purchased Quinta do Vallado in 1818.
Only 933 bottles exist and each bottle have been numbered and packaged in a unique case of solid walnut wood designed specifically for this wine by the Portuguese Wood Science. Each of the 933 bottles also includes a crystal decanter, produced in Portugal by Atlantis using the traditional technique of manual blowing. The decanter is an exact replica of the decanter that was used by António Bernardo Ferreira in 1830, at the reception of the German Prince Frederick of Hesse-Cassel.
This magnificent Port Wine was produced by a small producer from Baixo Corgo, a neighbor of Quinta do Vallado, who has kept it with great care and affection since 1888 in three hulls of 650L. Due to the evaporation to which it was subjected during more than a century, the wine was reduced to approximately 700L, having remained in the original hulls, where it has aged for over 120 years.
The wine comes from pre-phylloxera vineyards, and was produced by the traditional system of walking on foot in wineries. It is an extremely rare wine, with exceptional qualities, and it can still live for many years. This wine is a blend of typical varietals of the Douro region: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, and many others.
This extraordinary Port Wine presents an extremely seductive color that reminds you of mahogany, with greenish glints when the glass is shaken, a clear and evident sign of the age of wine. The aroma is very complex and rich with numerous nuances of nuts (figs, plums), iodine and spices, with a very fresh and harmonious finish.
The mouth confirms and reaffirms the tremendous freshness promised by the nose. Although the wine is extremely rich, unctuous, concentrated and dense, it ends with an acidity that produces a perfect harmony and gives an explosive and endless mouth ending, it seems that the wine does not want to leave.
The Vallado ABF is extremely rare and one for the collectors – do not miss the opportunity to own this special port wine.
