Balblair 2003 Vintage Single Malt Scotch Whisky (46% abv)

The Balblair 2003 vintage was aged exclusively in ex-bourbon American Oak barrels and said to have the signature barrel notes of toffee, butterscotch, and vanilla.

The Balblair Distillery was founded by John Ross in 1790 and thus claims title to the “second oldest [legal]working distillery in Scotland.” The word “balblair” is said to be translated from the Gaelic as “battlefield” or “town on the plain.” It was owned by a variety of local owners until purchased by Allied Distillers in 1970 until purchase by Inver House in 1996.

Balblair Single Malt Whisky 1997 Vintage (43% abv)

The youngest of the trio of 2007 released Balblair ‘vintages’, this Balblair single malt enjoyed maturation in first fill ex-bourbon casks and it is pleasant to see whisky from the distillery standing up alone at a younger age.

Balblair 1991 3rd Release (46% abv)

This third release of a 1991 vintage single malt from Balblair was announced in January 2018. It matured for 24 years in American oak before finishing its aging in first-fill Spanish oak butts for an additional three years. Bottled at 46% ABV.

Balblair 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky (46% abv)

Balblair 18 Year Old is the third whisky in the Balblair Collection and has been matured in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in first-fill Spanish oak butts. The result is a charismatic single malt with a rich toffee and pear aroma, with a hint of warm spices and leather. The palate offers notes of ripe apricots and raisins balanced by toasted oak and vanilla custard, before a long, warming finish filled with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Balblair 15 Year Old Scotch Whisky (46% abv)

The second whisky in the Balblair Collection, Balblair 15 Year Old is a full-bodied, velvety single malt that has been matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in first-fill Spanish oak butts. This creates a rich, sweet whisky with spicy aromas of honey, gingerbread and prunes. The palate is velvety-smooth and full of dark chocolate, tropical fruit and warm spice notes.

Balblair 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky (46% abv)

Balblair’s core range recently received a relaunch, eschewing the vintages that had previously adorned the bottles in favour of age statements! This is the entry level expression of the range, a 12 year old single malt matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and double-fired American oak casks. Though the vintages are gone, Balblair’s whisky retains its marvellous creaminess and fruit-forward flavour profile.

Balblair 1999 – 2nd Release Scotch Whisky (46% abv)

Balblair’s second release of its 1999 vintage replaces the 1997. It’s a combination of American oak, ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish oak ex-sherry butts.

Balblair 2000 – 2nd Release Scotch Whisky (46% abv)

Announced in January 2018, this is the second 2000 vintage from Balblair released seven years after the first release. This single malt aged for 13 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels before spending an additional five years in first-fill Spanish oak butts. Bottled at 46% ABV.

Gordon & MacPhail 1993 Balblair Cask Strength ( 49.6 abv )

Gordon & MacPhail have bottled this Sherry monster at a respectable 49.6% abv. Matured in a first-fill Sherry puncheon, number 1964, for 24 years. Distilled on the 28th of June 1993 and bottled on the 28th of August 2017.

This one won’t last long!
