1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon

A high rye component adds peppery lift to the predominant and sweeter corn in this bourbon, formerly named Ridgemont Reserve. But this is a rich, creamy spirit at its core. Brown sugar, butter, toffee, apple pie and licorice come through on a velvety texture. It carries the (precisely measured) 46.85-per-cent alcohol well, thanks to its depth of flavour. Score – 94. Basil Hayden’s Dark Rye

Blending is an art form, and our Dark Rye is your chance to own what might very well be a masterpiece.

It all begins with Kentucky Rye, providing a firm foundation of spice, oak, dried fruit and subtle molasses undertones for this release to build upon. From there, Canadian Rye from our award-winning Alberta Distillery is skillfully layered in. A touch of California Port, and its complementary notes of ripe fruit, provides the third and final layer to a whiskey just as at home on the rocks as it is in a cocktail.

Full in flavor, yet delicately nuanced, you’d be wise to grab a bottle of our Dark Rye to experience this magical blend for yourself.

The follow-up to the massively popular toasted barrel finish bourbon – this time, Michter’s has created a limited-edition rye, bottled at cask strength. Starting with a punchy rye whiskey, Michter’s further age it in casks that have been toasted rather than charred. This extra step adds surprising complexity and extra layers of spicy flavour that work well with the intensity of the bottling strength.

Michters Sour Mash

During the 1970s and 1980s, Michter’s Original Sour Mash Whiskey was the distillery’s single most popular product. While the “Sour Mash” moniker originated from the whiskey production process of the same name – whereby some previously fermented mash is used as the starter for the new mash to be fermented, much like making sourdough bread – Michter’s Original Sour Mash earned distinction for its unique taste. With its unique grain selection, it cannot be categorized as a rye or a bourbon.

Old Grand Dad Bourbon (50% abv)

Old Grand-Dad was a distiller named Basil Hayden who made his name by distilling a bourbon whiskey made with a higher percentage of rye. Basil Hayden passed along the art of distilling to his son and then, in turn, to his grandson. It was the third generation distiller, Colonel R.B. Hayden, who honored his grandfather by naming his justly famed whiskey “Old Grand-Dad.”
