1957 Kopke Colheita Tawny Port

95 Wine Enthusiast

There is a great balance between acidity and impressively fresh fruit considering the age of this venerable Port. Of course there are many flavors from the wood aging, but they are combined with orange marmalade, fig and raisin flavors in a riot of complex flavors that have created a very great wine.

1968 Taylor Fladgate Single Harvest

Taylor Fladgate holds one of the most extensive reserves of very old cask aged Port of any producer. They include a collection of rare Single Harvest Ports. These are Ports from a single year which age to full maturity in seasoned oak casks and display the year of harvest on the label.

Taylor Fladgate has decided to make a limited release, each year, of a Single Harvest Port made 50 years previously. The fifth in the series is the 1968 Single Harvest.

1978 Kopke Colheita Aged Tawny Port

“Not one of the generally declared vintages for Port, this year produced some ripe, sweet single quinta vintages. It also was a good year for rich, sweet tawnies. This is ripe, toffee-like in character packed with ripe raisin and sultana flavors. It is a luxurious wine, of course ready to drink.” 94 points Wine Enthusiast

1994 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

In a word, superb. It’s full-bodied, moderately sweet and incredibly tannic, but there’s amazing finesse and refinement to the texture, not to mention fabulous, concentrated aromas of raspberries, violets and other flowers. Perhaps the greatest Taylor ever, it’s better than either the ’92 or the ’70, though it’s very like the ’70 in structure. WS

1997 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

Is a mysterious phenomenon, a magical wine produced in extremely limited quantities and only in a few years. It is the expression of a terroir and confirms something that is a deeply held belief. The Nacional is great because of the grapes and where they come from. It has a unique personality, an extraordinary intensity and, even after many years of ageing, retains an astonishing youthfulness.

2016 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

OMG. This is really the most amazing young Taylor Fladgate I have ever tasted. Full-bodied and lightly sweet with super power and intensity. So racy and focused. Yet this has such muscle and intensity. Needs at least eight years to show you everything it has to offer. Drink in 2025.

2017 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

100 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The 2017 Vintage Port, not quite bottled when seen but the final blend, is a field blend aged for approximately 20 months in wood. It comes in with 100 grams of residual sugar. A step up (or two) on the 2016, this shows fine depth, more focus, vivid fruit and serious power. It’s not particularly thick, austere or astringent, but this is built for the long haul. It is potentially a great Taylor’s, effortlessly combining brilliant fruit and structure. It tastes great now (today, it is far more vivid than its Vinha Velha sibling), but the power makes this hard to drink today. So, have some patience. It will need some time, probably a lot more than indicated, and will likely last longer than indicated as well.

Croft Quinta Da Roeda Vintage 2015

Intense purple-black centre surrounded by a vivid magenta rim. A typical Quinta da Roêda Vintage Port nose made up of a rich plump dark berry compote infused with exotic notes of ripe tropical fruit and the subtle pungency of wild herbs

Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port 2015

Opaque purple color, almost black, with a very narrow purple aureole. Classic nose, with intense aroma, almost intoxicating, of wild fruits. Fruity is powerful but at the same time very fine and complex. The dense aromas of blackberry and cassis are the base notes for the mentholated and balsamic fragrances of aromatic herbs and the resinous character of esteva. Discreet notes of exotic wood, licorice and black pepper add an additional dimension of complexity. The palate is built around a dense core of black fruits and the tannins, with their dense and closed weave, provide structure and volume at the same time. The aromas of raspberry and plum add freshness and lightness to the long and lush finish. The vintage of 2015, the year of Fonseca’s bicentenary, produced an exceptional, expressive and accessible Vintage Guimaraens with the vigor necessary to ensure a long life in the wine cellar.

Fonseca Vintage Port 2017

98 Points Robert Parker

The 2017 Vintage Port, not quite bottled when seen but the final blend, is a field blend (with typical grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca) aged for approximately 20 months in used French oak. It comes in with 98 grams of residual sugar, a little drier on paper than its Taylor sibling this year. Sappy and sensational in flavor and fruit, this seemingly has moderate tannins around the edges on first taste, velvety texture and a long finish. Despite the first impression of moderation, there is plenty of power here. As it got some aeration, it showed nothing but power and closed down fairly hard. The combination of great fruit and fine structure makes this a potentially great Fonseca, but right now it is obviously immature and not showing everything it has. I’d recommend some patience here. – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
