2016 is a textbook year for the Masseto, with a typically Tuscan coastal climate which saw a dry and sunny vegetative season, with abundant sunshine and the right one amount of rain for perfect ripeness. 2016 presents itself with a particular color intense and young, the intense aroma of ripe dark fruit blends with subtle cocoa notes spices. On the palate, the rich and dense structure of ripe and silky tannins is balanced by a fruity note sensual and vibrant and with a lively acidity that keeps the long finish clean and full-bodied.
“The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a wine of extreme complexity and precision. It offers monumental depth with profound layers of black fruit, coffee, licorice and baking chocolate. I tasted this 2016 vintage beside the less-impactful 2015 vintage (which was reviewed last year). These two editions are very different when compared side to side, and this 2016 release is clearly superior in terms of the quality, clarity and intensity of its offerings. This Ornellaia delivers glossy shine and a polished texture that segues to important richness, concentration and textural fiber. It wraps thickly over the palate, imparting waves of sweet dark fruit and dark spice that linger for many long minutes. This beautiful wine is hitting the market now, but collectors will want to put it straight into their cellars for safekeeping”. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
This McLaren Vale Shiraz is powerful and expressive. Lifted aromatics of dark berries and smoky oak leap boldly from the glass. With a satin like palate; cherry and satsuma plum flavours develop into decadent dark chocolate and liquorice. Complex flavours, phenomenal depth and perfectly polished tannins are what makes this Carnival of Love one to be savoured and celebrated.
This year’s Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon blend has a little extra merlot, making it extra crushable, super nuanced and deliciously complex—just like you.
Bright, rock n’ roll acidity of earlier grapes perfectly balanced with ripe, spicy, blackberry fruit.
In a quiet corner of Val di Mezzane, sunny and windy valley, we find a tiny jewel of Valpolicella. 5 hectares that aim for becoming an expression of a different concept of winery: young yet authentic, innovative yet always in straight contact with nature, in one of the most traditional and severe wine growing areas on the Italian scenery. Thanks to the experience in the vineyard and in the cellar, to a fresh and enthusiastic management, a new and important reality in the Italian wine world developed.
This 2015 Pinot noir offers aromas of roasted spices, black raspberries, lilacs, dark loam, and bramble. Flavor follows with notes of cocoa nibs, toasted anise seed, and black cherry. Textures are rich and silky, with supple acidity. This wine has a lingering finish.
Since 1956 this family business has been run by the same family. Seven family members are currently working in this special wine domain. They make a wide range of wines of which the Aldegheri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico ‘Santambroggio’ DOCG 2015 is one of the absolute toppers. With respect for old traditions, excellent balanced wines are produced in a modern way. Northwest of the beautiful city of Verona in the hills above Sant’Ambroggio in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico are the vineyards. The vineyards are on average 20 years old (running up to 35 years) and the vines are on a thin calcareous soil. This Italian powerful red wine is produced according to the traditional method. After the alcoholic fermentation, the young wine matures for about 24 months in large Slovenian oak barrels, followed by a barrel aging of 12 months on French oak barriques with a final bottle aging of 8 months.
This is a prestigious red wine for ageing with a deep garnet red colour, produced using grapes picked in the hilly area of Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella and subsequently refermented on the marc of classic Recioto and Amarone. The marked aromas of plum and cooked marasca cherry stand out from the complex bouquet and make the first pleasurable impact, followed by perception of the perfect harmony of the full robust body.
The rigorous selection process undergone by the grand vin results in the creation of its younger brother, Amiral de Beychevelle.Despite being made from young vines, Amiral de Beychevelle benefits from the same growing techniques, meticulous sorting, and traditional barrel ageing. It has the same elegance and finesse as its older brother, but reveals its character more quickly, offering wine-enthusiasts the full vivacity of its youth. It can be kept for up to fifteen years, depending on the vintage.
Intense inky purple with bright magenta hues. Classic McLaren Vale aromas of blackberries bitter chocolate and liquorice are perfectly held by carefully utilised French oak. The palate follows on from the initial aromas and is rich and full, with the abundant fruit flavours given structure by soft tannins.
