A gorgeous 23-year-old from the historic Islay distillery Bowmore, bottled by Adelphi.
Distilled 1994, this was matured in a sherry cask (#555) before being bottled in 2018 as a 23-year-old. At 54% there are 521 bottles in the outturn.
Bowmore showcases a gentle, aromatic smoke and is one of the few peated malts that attracts sherry cask maturation to develop the elegance. Understood to have been officially founded in 1779, it also has a claim as one of the oldest still-operating distilleries anywhere in Scotland.
Adelphi is one of the world’s top independent bottlers of whisky. They acquire casks already matured to bottle, as opposed to maturing them themselves, and the Adelphi brand has been synonymous with top quality whisky for in the post-2000 era. The company also owns the Ardnamurchan distillery on Scotland’s east coast, which distilled its first spirit in 2014.
