This is the first batch of three inaugural releases from Lagg Distillery – a heavily peated single malt, matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled up in 2022. Boasting a vibrant smoky character, with plenty of vanilla caramel cask influence, here we see the team at Lagg perfecting what will be its house style going forward. Nose: Earthy peat and crumbly vanilla fudge tangle, with a touch of menthol creeping beneath.
Palate: Oily with silky caramel, charred sugar, and biscuity malt balancing rich, vegetal peat smoke. Some pebbly grist arrives beneath, joined by herbaceous spice.
Finish: Chewy peat lingers with a touch of iodine, while butterscotch and vanilla pod remain in play.
