McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey (42.5% abv)

94 Points Whisky Bible – McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey is of the Islay tradition of Scotch whisky, but wholly made in Oregon, USA from lightly peated Scottish malt. Distilled in a Holstein pot still using one pass distillation, this premium, non-chill filtered product is then barrel-aged in air-dried Oregon oak barrels. The result is remarkably smooth for a 3-year-old whiskey. In the Whiskey Bible’s review of the world’s whiskeys, McCarthy’s was recognized as the “Best Small Batch Whiskey” and Jim Murray named it “An American Masterpiece.”

McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey comes from the Clear Creek Distillery in Portland, Oregon. Interestingly, it’s made with peated barley brought in from Scotland, resulting in a rather peaty flavour profile. It’s matured for 3 years in Oregon oak casks. Over the years, batches of McCarthy’s Oregon Single Malt Whiskey received plenty of favourable words from the likes of Jim Murray and Michael Jackson.
