The Line Up
Maison Joseph Drouhin
Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin’s cellars have spread from the historical Cellars of the Dukes of Burgundy and the Kings of France in Beaune (12th-18th centuries) to the Moulin de Vaudon, an 18th Century watermill in Chablis.
Today, the fourth generation is at the helm. Each has their role to play in imposing the Family “Charter of Excellence”.
The Joseph Drouhin Domaine was assembled parcel by parcel over the years and comprises today 80 hectares (197.5 acres) of vineyards in Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Chablis. It is one of the most important domains in Burgundy, with more than two thirds of the vineyards classified as Premier and Grand Crus.
Laurent Drouhin, Export Director, North America & The Caribbean
Laurent Drouhin followed his father to the vineyards at a tender age, roller-skated in the cellars and played hide and seek in the “cuverie”. He likes to say he grew up in a barrel.
His fondest memory (à la Marcel Proust) is the smell of the macerating must and the taste of the vin “perlant”.
His first job after graduate school (Ecole Supérieure de Gestion in Paris) was with a bank. But he quickly realized he was missing Burgundy. He was eager to share his knowledge with other people.
The change came in 1993 when he became involved with sales for Joseph Drouhin. Two years later he became sales manager for the French capital, directing a team calling on restaurants, retailers and individual collectors.
Today, Laurent is the Export Director for North America and the Caribbean. Besides his commercial responsibilities, he is also involved in communication and public relation activities. Since 2005, he lives in New York area with his wife Béatrice and their two children. His creative and active personality is an ideal match for the American life-style even if he likes to say that his heart remains in Burgundy. He loves to sail and recently has developed a passion for golf.
