The name honours Nathan Green, who was known as Uncle Nearest to friends and family, and was the first African-American master distiller on record in the USA. It’s from Uncle Nearest that a particular Jack Daniel was taught about distilling was back in the mid-1800s. Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green is undoubtedly a figure who was vitally important to whiskey history.
