Château Brane Cantenac 2021, Margaux
$166.99
Château Brane-Cantenac is a well-regarded wine estate based in the Margaux appellation, in the Haut-Médoc region just north of Bordeaux city. The estate was ranked a second growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves and regularly receives praise for its eponymously titled “grand vin”. It is owned by Société Viticole Henri Lurton and although overseen by Henrui Lurton since 1992, the estate has been in the Lurton family for four generations. Recent vintages have been outstanding and this property is now producing the best wines in Margaux behind the superstars of Château Margaux, Palmer and Rauzan Ségla.
In the glass, the 2021 Brane-Cantenac presents a deep, alluring color of dark plum that immediately catches the eye. Its rich texture is visually captivating, hinting at the luxurious experience that awaits the palate. The nose is an aromatic journey, offering a symphony of scents that include wild berries, cassis, spices, and violets. This bouquet is a testament to the wine’s complexity and depth.
Expert Tasting Notes: “The 2021 Brane-Cantenac is a classy, elegant wine. The aromatics alone are so enticing. Crushed flowers, sweet pipe tobacco, mint, rose petal and cedar open first. The 74% Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit higher than in most years, which comes through in the wine’s aromatic and structural profile. The 2021 is quiet and understated. Élevage was 18 months in 100% new French oak, but the wood is not at all evident—an important and positive sign regarding the wine’s overall balance. Even so, the 2021 is a subdued Brane-Cantenac, one that needs time in bottle to shine at its brightest.” – Antonio Gallino, Vinous Media, 95 Points
