1997 Marchesi Antinori Tignanello Toscana (Magnum)

“During the recorking ceremony for the 1971 Tignanello, I had the opportunity to taste four editions of the wine spanning the four decades of its production. The 1997 Tignanello was by far the most enjoyable of these wines. It is experiencing a perfect moment in its drinking window. Looking through The Wine Advocate archive, I see the suggestion of brett in a past review. I found absolutely no imperfections in this wine. Instead, the bouquet is generous and opulent with dark berry, spice, licorice and leather. Much of the Tignanello vineyards were replanted in the 1990s so I expect that the fruit came from younger vines. The finish is silky and long in persistency: 94 Parker Points.”

Caymus “Special Selection” Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 1.5 Litre

Caymus’s “Special Selection” is the pride of the Wagner family. It’s their flagship wine, is comprised of the very best barrels of the vintage, and is not produced in years where the quality just doesn’t meet Chuck Wagner’s standards. The “Special Selection” is approachable both in its youth as well as in its maturity.

Caymus Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 Vintage 1.5 L

Caymus Vineyards produces two Cabernets Sauvignons – a “Napa Valley” and the venerable “Special Selection”. Both Cabernet bottlings have aromas and flavors which can only be achieved through “hang time” – a technique which chances the loss of crop if early winter sets in. Leaving the fruit to “hang” on the vine unusually long develops suppleness, increases color, and matures the tannins of the grapes. The wines are abundant in textural tannins yet soft as velvet. Crop thinning, allowing measured sunlight to reach the vine’s fruit zone, and waiting for increased ripeness are all part of our viticultural practices. Caymus Cabernets offer a wide array of aromas and flavors including cocoa, cassis and vanilla.

Gerard Bertrand Cote Des Roses 1.5L Magnum

A soft, pale, brilliant pink with bluish tints developing over time towards more orangey nuances. The bouquet releases aromas of summer fruits, cassis and redcurrant. Floral notes of rose along with hints of grapefruit complete the picture. The finish is fresh, offering notes of candy. On the palate the impression is fresh and full, with great aromatic persistence and balance.

Kavalan King Car 40th Anniversary Edition (56.3% abv) 1.5 Litre

This landmark single cask whisky has been created to celebrate a milestone by the owners of Kavalan Distillery.
Aged in a ‘secret’ red wine cask sourced from a winery of ‘world-class standing’, it signifies 40 years of the King Car Company and comes packaged to show their pride: A super-sized decanter adorned with a crown-inspired cork, studded with world-renowned Swarovski crystals pays homage to the group’s name. The decanter is housed in an impressive leather bound wooden box with a ‘Snow Mountain’ design acknowledging the land that King Car has become a part of. The box also contains a stunning Kavalan branded whisky glass. The sheer scale of the presentation is spectacular.

As to the whisky itself, Master blender Ian Chang comments, “It’s been aged in a very rare red wine cask whose majesty transfers to a richly intense whisky, delivering very distinct berry flavours and luxuriant toffee.” (The cask is believed to have held Cabernet Sauvignon, so one could speculate the provenance might be a First Growth Bordeaux).

Luce della Vite 2013 Vintage 1.5L

If there are two names in the wine world that would join forces to make a knockout Tuscan wine, they would almost certainly be Mondavi and Frescobaldi. While Mondavi helped start a major qualitative shift in modern-day California, the Frescobaldi family have been making wine in Italy for seven centuries, and the ‘Luce’ is the perfect union of their new and old-world identities. The 2013 ‘Luce,’ a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, is one of exceptional Tuscan charm, from a vintage heralded as “classic” by the Wine Advocate. With 97pts from James Suckling for its “beauty and polish” this easily stands up to peers at twice the price!
