The spirit itself is simply delicious, with an extraordinary richness and incredible creamy mouthfeel. Despite its outstanding age, the rum avoids being overoaked, with excellent balance between cask and spirit.

Drinkers should expect notes of rancio, raisins, stewed pears and dried fruit, dark oak, citrus fruit, baking spices, molasses and burnt sugar. Stand-out flavours of chai, peaches and tropical fruit round out the finish. These notes are given something of a boost by the bump in proof to 43% ABV.

This is the third release in the series which celebrates the scenic beauty of the island, with this Kildonan & Pladda Island bottling nodding its head to the view from the hills above the village of Kildonan out towards Pladda Island. The whisky itself has seen over two decades of ageing, resting in sherry butts and puncheons before a finishing period in ruby Port casks. It was finally bottled at 21 years old, weighing in at 50.4% ABV.

It was distilled in November 1997, and filled into a single refill hogshead for over two decades.
