La Forge is a four-hectare site at Domaine de Villemajou, in the middle of the Boutenac sub-appellation of Corbières. Century-old carignan vines are at the heart of this syrah/carignan blend that is George Bertrand’s favourite red. The yields are crazy low at 25hl/ha, but the result is a wine full of power and full ripeness. Most of the varieties are vinified separately by carbonic maceration before ageing in new French oak barriques for 12 months. Rich, open, savoury, peppery aromas preview rich blackberry fruit with meaty, licorice plum flavours.
