Bodegas Caro 2021 "Caro" Malbec Blend

Bodegas CARO was created through a partnership between Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite and the Catena family, bringing together Bordeaux expertise in Cabernet Sauvignon with Catena’s knowledge of high-altitude Mendoza Malbec. The project began in 1999.

The 2021 CARO draws fruit from three important Uco Valley terroirs: Paraje Altamira, San Pablo and Gualtallary. The cooler 2021 vintage produced a particularly fresh, precise style, with Malbec providing floral depth and dark fruit while Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, cassis and graphite.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep garnet-purple.

Nose: Blackberry, cassis and cherry with violet, graphite, cedar and dried herbs.

Palate: Full and polished, with ripe black fruit, fresh acidity and fine, juicy tannins. Dark chocolate, herbs and mineral notes add complexity.

Finish: Long and focused, with lingering blackberry, graphite, spice and savoury mineral character.

Ideal Drinking Window: Now–2040
The 2021 has excellent ageing potential thanks to its acidity, concentration and fine tannic structure. Vinous recommends 2025–2040, while Tim Atkin places it around 2025–2035.
