Chapoutier Domaine de Bila-Haut "L'Esquerda"

An intense nose with wild dark berries, dark plums, game, cloves and some undergrowth. Mineral driven with firm but precise tannins, a characteristic of the granite soil. Chapoutier Domaine de Bila-Haut "L'Esquerda"

Founded by legendary Rhône producer Maison M. Chapoutier, Domaine de Bila-Haut was established in the remote village of Latour-de-France in the Roussillon after Michel Chapoutier recognized the extraordinary potential of its ancient schist and limestone soils. Over the years, the estate has expanded into several exceptional vineyard sites, with Lesquerde becoming home to some of the domaine's most distinctive single-vineyard wines. The steep limestone slopes, arid climate, and persistent Tramontane winds produce naturally low yields and grapes of remarkable concentration while preserving freshness and aromatic precision.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep, opaque ruby with purple highlights.

Nose: Intense aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry, violet, cracked pepper, warm baking spices, and subtle smoky mineral notes, with hints of cedar and graphite.

Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated, revealing layers of ripe black fruits, plum, licorice, dark chocolate, and savoury herbs. Fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide exceptional structure, while the limestone terroir lends freshness and precision throughout the palate.

Finish: Long, powerful, and mineral-driven, lingering with dark fruit, spice, floral notes, and a distinctive smoky, stony character.
