Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra

Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra

This red is rich and succulent, with cherry, raspberry, plum, tar, iron and eucalyptus permeating the generous profile. Dusty tannins lift this up, while the flavors remain persistent and fan out on the lengthy finish. Complex and stylish. Best from 2026 through 2043. - Wine Spectator

Paolo Conterno Barolo Ginestra

The Ginestra cru is one of Barolo’s most esteemed vineyard areas, known for calcareous clay soils and excellent exposure, producing wines with power, structure, and depth. The 2019 vintage in Barolo benefited from a relatively balanced growing season, with warm conditions moderated by timely rainfall, allowing for optimal phenolic ripeness while preserving acidity.

Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo extended maceration during fermentation to extract structure and complexity. The wine is aged for several years in large Slavonian oak casks (botti), a hallmark of traditional Barolo production, followed by additional bottle ageing prior to release.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Garnet with ruby reflections, gradually developing brick tones with age
Nose: Aromatic and layered, with notes of red cherry, dried rose, and raspberry, alongside tar, licorice, spice, and subtle earthy nuances
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with firm, well-defined tannins and vibrant acidity; flavours of red fruit, mineral tones, and savoury herbs show precision and depth
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering floral, spice, and earthy characteristics

Cellaring & Pairings
Excellent ageing potential; approachable with extended decanting now, but best from 2026 onward, with potential to evolve over 20+ years.
