Penley 2023 Merlot "But Good"

Penley Estate was founded in 1989 by members of the Tolley winemaking family, whose history in South Australian wine spans several generations. Located in Coonawarra, the estate is known for producing wines that highlight the region’s distinctive red soils, cool climate conditions, and strong varietal expression.
The 2023 vintage saw balanced growing conditions with moderate temperatures and good ripening weather, allowing for even flavour development and vibrant acidity. Gentle extraction and maturation in a combination of stainless steel and seasoned oak helped retain the wine’s supple texture and bright fruit profile without excessive oak influence.

Nose:
Aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, and blueberry layered with subtle cocoa, baking spice, and soft herbal notes.

Palate:
Medium-bodied and smooth with juicy dark fruit flavours, soft tannins, and balanced acidity. Notes of plum, blackberry, mocha, and light spice carry through a generous yet approachable palate.

Finish:
Rounded and fruit-driven with lingering dark berry notes and gentle savoury spice.
