Signatory Hogshead Blended Malt

Signatory Hogshead Fine Old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky comes from respected independent bottler Signatory Vintage, founded by Andrew Symington in 1988. Unlike a conventional blended Scotch, Hogshead is a blended malt, meaning it is composed entirely of malt whiskies from different Scottish distilleries with no grain whisky in the blend. The composition is what makes this bottle particularly interesting. Approximately one-third of the blend comes from peated Islay malts, while the remaining two-thirds are unpeated malts from the Scottish Highlands. Signatory does not disclose the individual distilleries, allowing the focus to remain on the finished profile rather than the names behind it.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh fruit and honeyed malt open with vanilla oak and cereal, followed by sea spray, white pepper and a gentle thread of campfire smoke. Dark chocolate and a subtle espresso-like note add richness underneath.

Palate: Rounded and easy-drinking with orchard fruit, malt and woody vanilla at the core. Salted caramel and liquorice emerge alongside fresh fruit and oak, while restrained peat smoke adds a savoury, coastal edge.

Finish: Lingering caramel and dark chocolate give way to gentle smoke, herbs and a pleasantly drying mineral quality. The peat remains present without overwhelming the sweeter malt character
