Zuidam Distillers Genever - Special #8 12 Year Old American Oak

Old Genever combines specific qualities of three different grain types. The grain spirit (malt wine) is distilled from equal parts corn, rye and malted barley. The corn brings a rich sweetness, the rye spiciness and the malted barley provides the backbone. The spirit is triple distilled in a small pot still. Then it is partially distilled a fourth time with selected botanicals, juniper, Licorice and aniseed. Finally, the spirit and the botanical distillate are blended and reduced to 45% abv before ageing in small oak barrels. Tasting Notes: Smell : Fruity and fresh with first notes of lemon, orange and subtle notes of Riversaltes wine. Warmer notes of vanilla, honey and dark chocolate give depth. Taste : Complex with a freshness of the Riversaltes wine in the background. Finally a bit earthy with clearly recognizable tones due to the aging in barrels of French oak. Finish : Long with elegant notes of oak, chocolate and orange.
