Jadot Gevrey Chambertin 1R CR CL St Jac
$293.99
Maison Louis Jadot’s story can’t be reduced to a simple list of dates. It is, above all, a summary of moments, meetings and an overall philosophy, all based on one simple vision: to maintain the grandeur of Burgundy’s great terroirs for all time.
The label of Maison Louis Jadot’s wines are characterized by the instantly recognizable image of Bacchus’s head, an image that has become, in many ways, the signature of the house and a symbol of its identity, whatever is in the bottle.
The « Clos Saint Jacques » vineyard is located at the beginning of the valley called Combe de lavaux. It is very nicely South-East oriented. There are only five owners of this prestigious Clos, which may have deserved the Grand Cru Appellation when the first official classification was decided.
The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) unfurls in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of sweet red berries, coffee roast, raw cocoa, candied peel and cedary new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an abundance of satiny structuring tannin, juicy acids and a long, pure finish. As usual, this will require some bottle age, but it’s one of the high points of the collection. – William Kelly, wine advocate
