Chateau Haut Simard 2014 St Emilion

Chateau Haut Simard 2014 St Emilion

There’s a purity of fruit here with cherry and sliced-plum aromas that follow through to a full body that’s tannic and chewy. This is a wine to age. Give it two or three years to soften. Try in 2020. Structured! Cool. - James Suckling

Chateau Haut Simard 2014 St Emilion

Château Haut-Simard is owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone, one of Saint-Émilion’s most prestigious estates. Located on clay and limestone soils typical of the appellation, Haut-Simard benefits from the same careful vineyard management and traditional approach that define the family’s winemaking philosophy.
The wine is primarily composed of Merlot, often supported by Cabernet Franc, contributing both roundness and structure. The 2014 vintage in Bordeaux is considered a strong, classic year, marked by a warm, dry finish to the growing season that allowed for optimal ripening after a more challenging summer. This resulted in wines with good balance, fresh acidity, and refined tannins.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with slight garnet evolution
Nose: Aromas of black cherry, plum, and cassis, with notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, and subtle earthy undertones
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, with refined tannins and balanced acidity; flavours of dark fruit, cocoa, and savoury herbs integrate with light oak influence
Finish: Elegant and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, spice, and mineral notes

Cellaring & Pairings
Approaching early maturity; enjoyable now with decanting or cellar for an additional 5–10 years.
