Dog Nose Peperoncino

Built around Calabria’s fiery peperoncino tradition, this distinctive Italian cordial combines chili peppers with sweet peppers and locally grown herbs for heat that builds without overwhelming the palate. Dog Nose Peperoncino

Dog Nose Cordiale Peperoncino is produced by Vecchio Magazzino Doganale, the acclaimed rural liqueur producer based in Calabria, southern Italy. The expression takes its name from the Dog Nose peperoncino, which is divided into four pieces, dried naturally in the sun, and then subjected to a hydroalcoholic infusion. Sweet Calabrian peppers are incorporated alongside the hotter variety, while herbs cultivated by the producer's agricultural operation contribute additional aromatic complexity.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh chili pepper leads with aromatic herbs and sweet red pepper, joined by deeper roasted vegetable notes and a restrained underlying sweetness.

Palate: Initially rounded and gently sweet, with fresh and roasted pepper flavours developing into herbal complexity and a steadily building chili warmth that remains balanced rather than aggressively hot.

Finish: Persistent and warming with lingering peperoncino, herbs, roasted pepper, and a pleasantly spicy heat that encourages another sip rather than overpowering the palate.

Dog Nose can be served neat or chilled as a digestif, but its combination of pepper, herbs, sweetness, and heat makes it particularly interesting in cocktails. Try it as a spicy modifier in a Margarita, Paloma, Bloody Mary, Mezcal Sour, or Negroni, using a small measure to introduce controlled chili heat.
