Highland Park Valknut

Valknut is the second in our Viking Legend series, celebrating our rich Nordic ancestry here in Orkney. The word translates to ‘knot of those slain in battle’ and the symbol of inter-linked triangles represents the transition from earthly life to heavenly life – ‘heavenly’ being the operative word when it comes to this special release, winning Double Gold in the 2019 San Francisco Spirits Competition. Created using a higher proportion of our local peated malt and matured in a combination of sherry seasoned European and American oak casks and ex-bourbon casks, Valknut walks a fine line between the aromatic spiciness of cloves and cracked black pepper, and the patisserie sweetness of toasted vanilla and creme brûlée. The packaging for the whole series was created by Jim Lyngvild, a Danish designer and artist of international renown, whose great grandfather 36 generations ago was Ragnvald Eysteinsson, the first Earl of the Orkney Islands. We’ve been crafting our award-winning single malt whisky at the Highland Park Distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney, since 1798. Age, experience and respect for tradition may define our whisky, but it’s Orkney that sets it apart. Something magic happens here and the result is the wild harmony of flavours found in our whisky.
