Idi di Marzo Carnalis Appassimento

Idi di Marzo Carnalis Appassimento

The nose is cool, fresh and earthy, like a salty, minty breeze blowing over tart berries, soil and herbs. The palate sweetens with notes of ripe, macerated blackberries and black cherries in sweet syrup, but the flinty edge of top soil and more cooling mint on the finish provide balance. - Wine Enthusiast

Idi di Marzo 2024 Carnalis Appasimento

Idi di Marzo is part of the Famiglia De Cerchio wine family, whose roots in Abruzzo stretch back generations. The project takes its name from the Ides of March and traces its inspiration to Vincenzo De Cerchio, who planted the family's first vineyards around Villamagna in the province of Chieti in the early 20th century. Today, the wines emphasize native and southern Italian varieties while combining traditional techniques with a contemporary, fruit-driven style.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby-red with dark purple reflections, displaying the concentration expected from the appassimento process.

Nose: Ripe blackberry and black cherry are joined by tart berries, dried fruit, earthy herbs, and a distinctive cooling mint character. There is also a savoury, slightly flinty quality that keeps the aromatics from becoming overly jammy.

Palate: Full-bodied, warm, and velvety, with concentrated blackberry and black cherry flavours developing into dried plum, currant, and sweetly spiced fruit. The appassimento method provides richness and softness, while earthy minerality, herbs, and fresh mint introduce welcome contrast and balance.

Finish: Generous and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, dried berries, savoury earth, herbs, and a refreshing minty lift.
