La Spinetta Timorasso

La Spinetta is one of Piedmont’s most acclaimed producers, founded by the Rivetti family and known for combining meticulous vineyard work with expressive, terroir-focused winemaking. While internationally recognized for Barbaresco and Barolo, the winery also champions lesser-known indigenous varieties such as Timorasso.

Timorasso is an ancient white grape native to southeastern Piedmont, particularly the Colli Tortonesi area. Once nearly extinct, it has gained renewed attention for its ability to produce complex, age-worthy white wines with naturally high acidity and pronounced minerality.

The vineyards are planted on calcareous clay soils that contribute structure and tension to the wine. Fermentation is typically carried out in stainless steel, sometimes with partial ageing on lees or in neutral oak to enhance texture without masking the grape’s character. The style balances richness with precision and freshness.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale gold with green reflections
Nose: Aromas of pear, peach, and citrus zest, layered with notes of white flowers, honey, herbs, and mineral undertones
Palate: Medium-bodied and textured, with vibrant acidity and flavours of orchard fruit, lemon, almond, and subtle saline notes
Finish: Long and complex, with lingering citrus, minerality, and savoury nuances

Cellaring & Pairings
Excellent ageing potential for a white wine; enjoy now for freshness or cellar for 5–10+ years to develop greater complexity and honeyed notes.
Pairs well with seafood, shellfish, risotto, and roasted poultry. Also complements creamy pasta dishes, truffle-based cuisine, and aged cheeses.
