Marchesi di Barolo Barbaresco

Marchesi di Barolo is one of Piedmont’s historic producers, with origins dating back to the early 19th century. While best known for Barolo, the winery also produces traditional expressions of neighbouring appellations, including Barbaresco, using a combination of historic vineyard sources and classic winemaking techniques.

Barbaresco, located northeast of Barolo, shares Nebbiolo as its sole grape variety but is generally known for wines that are slightly more approachable and elegant in youth due to differences in soil composition and climate. The vineyards benefit from calcareous marl soils and a continental climate that supports slow ripening and aromatic development.

Fermentation is carried out with extended maceration to extract tannin and structure, followed by ageing in large oak casks and/or French oak barrels to soften the wine and develop complexity while preserving Nebbiolo’s varietal character.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale garnet with ruby reflections
Nose: Aromas of cherry, raspberry, and rose petal, with notes of dried herbs, tobacco, spice, and light tar
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, with bright acidity and firm yet refined tannins; flavours of red berries, tea leaf, and savoury earthiness are layered with subtle oak influence
Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering floral notes, spice, and mineral complexity

Cellaring & Pairings
Enjoy now with decanting or cellar for 8–15+ years to allow further development and integration.

Pairs well with braised meats, roasted game, mushroom dishes, and truffle-based cuisine. Also complements aged cheeses and rich northern Italian dishes such as risotto and tajarin pasta.
