Murray McDavid Blair Athol 16 Year Old is a 2008-vintage Highland single malt released as part of Murray McDavid’s Benchmark collection in spring 2025. The whisky was initially matured in bourbon hogsheads before Murray McDavid moved it into first-fill bourbon casks sourced from Koval Distillery in Chicago for its final maturation.
Blair Athol was established in 1798 in Pitlochry, just south of the Cairngorms, making it one of Scotland’s longstanding Highland distilleries. Its spirit is generally robust and malt-forward, a style that has made Blair Athol particularly valuable to blenders for more than two centuries.


Tasting Notes
Nose: Banoffee leads into dried mango and sweet malt, combining creamy caramelized fruit with the cereal richness of mature Highland whisky.

Palate: Fresh cereal and ripe apricot are joined by toasted almond, with the bourbon casks contributing sweetness and a lightly roasted, nutty character.

Finish: Long and warming, carrying sweet spice and gentle oak char after the fruit and malt begin to fade.
