Murray McDavid Caol Ila 10 Year Old

Murray McDavid Caol Ila 10 Year Old was distilled in 2014 and bottled in Spring 2025 for the Benchmark collection. The release combines three casks, #1995780, #2005615 and #2005627, finished in first-fill PX sherry and Amarone wine casks before bottling at 53.1%. It is natural colour and non-chill filtered.
Caol Ila sits on Islay’s northeast coast overlooking the Sound of Islay. Its spirit is known for a comparatively clean, elegant style of peat, often combining smoke with citrus, orchard fruit and maritime character. That brighter profile gives the rich PX and Amarone casks plenty to work against rather than simply disappearing beneath them.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Floral hickory smoke with salted apricot and ripe plum, backed by lingering embers.

Palate: Grilled berries, smoky apple and tamarind combine rich fruit with Caol Ila’s distinctly peated character.

Finish: Long and smoky, with glowing embers, pear and nectarine bringing fresher orchard fruit back into the finish.
