Murray McDavid The Fiddichside 28 Year Old

Murray McDavid The Fiddichside 28 Year Old is a 1997-vintage blended malt Scotch whisky released in autumn 2025 as part of the bottler's prestigious Mission Gold collection. The whisky began its maturation in American oak bourbon hogsheads before spending its final six years in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry cask, an unusually lengthy secondary maturation that gives the PX plenty of time to integrate with the older spirit.
The name pays tribute to the Fiddichside Inn, a tiny historic pub on the banks of the River Fiddich near Craigellachie. Murray McDavid describes it as a gathering place for fishermen, railway workers and whisky drinkers for more than 180 years, with its famously small bar becoming something of a Speyside whisky institution.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Toffee-coated apple opens the whisky, followed by sandalwood and creamy fudge. The mature oak is present but wrapped in plenty of sweeter fruit and confectionery character.

Palate: Spiced honey and red fruits lead a remarkably creamy palate, balancing the concentrated sweetness of the PX cask against the silky texture of the mature Speyside malt.

Finish: Sweet mature oak develops into vanilla and butterscotch, giving the whisky a long, mellow conclusion that feels appropriately polished for its age.
