Murray McDavid Tobermory 28 Year Old

Murray McDavid Tobermory 28 Year Old is a 1995-vintage single malt from the Isle of Mull, bottled in Autumn 2024 for the bottler's premium Mission Gold collection. It began maturation in bourbon hogsheads before being transferred into red wine barriques, creating a whisky that combines mature island spirit with an unusually substantial wine-cask influence.
Founded in 1798, Tobermory is the only whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull and one of Scotland's older operating distilleries. It produces two distinctly different styles of single malt: the unpeated whisky bottled as Tobermory and the heavily peated spirit released under the Ledaig name.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Red currants and dark plum lead into salted caramel, combining ripe darker fruit with a richer, slightly savoury sweetness.

Palate: Grilled strawberry takes centre stage, followed by distinctly coastal notes and a subtle touch of smoke. The mature spirit keeps the wine influence grounded with salinity and malt rather than allowing the fruit to dominate completely.

Finish: Red cherries and sea spray linger alongside herbal tea, creating a finish that moves away from straightforward sweetness toward something more savoury, maritime and gently herbal.
