North Star Inchfad - Loch Lomond 18 Year Old

North Star Inchfad - Loch Lomond 18 Year Old

A rare, heavily peated Highland single malt bottled at natural cask strength, offering an intense marriage of earthy smoke and rich sherried depth. Matured for nearly two decades in a single Oloroso sherry cask, it delivers a bold profile of dark fruit, roasted nuts, caramel sweetness, and warming spice layered over robust peat. With just a handful of bottles released, it’s a powerful and distinctive dram that showcases a lesser-seen smoky style from Loch Lomond.

North Star Inchfad - Loch Lomond 18 Year Old

This whisky was distilled in 2007 at Scotland’s versatile Loch Lomond Distillery and bottled in 2025 by independent bottler North Star Spirits as part of its small-batch cask series. Loch Lomond, founded in 1966, is known for its unusual production flexibility, using multiple still types to create a wide variety of whisky styles. The β€œInchfad” name refers to one of the distillery’s heavily peated spirit stylesβ€”named after an island in Loch Lomondβ€”and is rarely seen as a standalone single malt. For this release, the smoky spirit was matured for 18 years in a single Oloroso sherry cask and bottled at a natural 51.1% ABV without chill filtration or colouring. With only around 168 bottles produced, it represents a scarce opportunity to explore this peaty Loch Lomond style through the lens of long sherry maturation.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Rich peat smoke intertwined with dark fruits, raisins, caramel, and hints of leather, chocolate, and toasted nuts.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex with figs, dates, and toffee layered over earthy smoke, dry Oloroso nuttiness, oak spice, and touches of espresso.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering cocoa, cinnamon, clove, sherried sweetness, and a fading trail of dry smoke.
