Olga Raffault Chinon AOC Les Barnabes

Domaine Olga Raffault is a historic, family-run estate in Chinon, located in France’s Loire Valley. The winery is known for its traditional approach and dedication to expressing the nuances of Cabernet Franc across different vineyard sites.

“Les Barnabés” is typically sourced from younger vines and gravelly soils near the Vienne River, which contribute to a more approachable and fruit-forward style compared to the estate’s more structured cuvées. Chinon’s cool climate allows Cabernet Franc to ripen slowly, preserving acidity while developing aromatic complexity.

Winemaking is carried out with minimal intervention, including fermentation in stainless steel or concrete, followed by ageing in neutral vessels to maintain purity of fruit and terroir expression. Oak influence is minimal, keeping the focus on freshness and varietal character.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Bright ruby with purple hues
Nose: Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and currant, with notes of violet, dried herbs, and subtle earthy tones
Palate: Light- to medium-bodied, with bright acidity and fine tannins; flavours of red berries, herbal notes, and a touch of minerality
Finish: Fresh and clean, with lingering red fruit and a lightly savoury edge

Cellaring & Pairings
Best enjoyed within 3–6 years of vintage, though it can develop additional complexity with short-term ageing.
Pairs well with roasted poultry, pork, and charcuterie. Also complements vegetable dishes, lentils, goat cheese, and herb-driven cuisine.
