Penfolds 2023 Bin 389 Cabernet /Shiraz

Penfolds 2023 Bin 389 Cabernet /Shiraz

This wine has been made every vintage since 1960. Refined, generous and polished aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, cured meat, crushed stones and iodine. The palate is full-bodied with a rounded, textural palate and ultra-refined tannins that lead to a silky, savory, black-fruited finish. 51% cabernet sauvignon and 49% shiraz. Excellent. - James Suckling

Penfolds 2023 Bin 389 Cabernet /Shiraz

First produced by Max Schubert in 1960, Bin 389 helped establish the classic Australian Cabernet-Shiraz style, combining Cabernet’s structure with the richness of Shiraz. Often called “Baby Grange,” portions are traditionally matured in barrels previously used for Grange.

The 2023 draws fruit from McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Barossa Valley. A generally cool growing season and delayed harvest produced concentrated fruit with ripe tannins and excellent varietal definition. The wine matured for 12 months in American oak hogsheads, 33% new.
