Pierre Graffeuille 2019 'Odyssee'

Pierre Graffeuille 2019 'Odyssee'

Such a fetching nose full of spices, showing lots of cumin, tangy peppercorn to the fresh blackberries and blueberries. Medium-bodied palate with a tangy profile of spice and blue fruit. Tannins are creamy and small-grained, giving a nice, seamless grip to the finale. Cabernet sauvignon, grenache and mourvedre. Irresistible now, but can hold, too. - James Suckling

Pierre Graffeuille 2019 'Odyssee'

Odyssée was created by Bordeaux winemaker Pierre Graffeuille and Rhône-based Matthieu Dumarcher. The project deliberately blends Cabernet Sauvignon from the Médoc with Grenache and Mourvèdre from the Southern Rhône, reviving the historic idea of combining Bordeaux structure with Rhône generosity. Because the fruit crosses established wine regions, it is bottled simply as Vin de France.

The 2019 uses Cabernet Sauvignon from mature Médoc vines with older Grenache and Mourvèdre from elevated Rhône vineyards. The components are vinified separately before blending, with maturation in French oak barrels. Production is very limited.
