Yves Cuilleron Vdp Syrah

Yves Cuilleron is a respected producer based in the northern Rhône Valley, known for crafting wines that emphasize terroir and varietal clarity. While best known for appellation wines such as Saint-Joseph and Condrieu, his Vin de Pays (now IGP) bottlings offer a more accessible introduction to his style.

This Syrah is sourced from vineyards just outside the appellation boundaries, allowing for flexibility in blending and winemaking. The region’s granitic soils and temperate climate contribute to wines with freshness, spice, and structure.

Fermentation typically includes partial whole-cluster use to enhance aromatic lift and complexity. Ageing is carried out in neutral or lightly used oak barrels to preserve fruit purity while adding subtle texture. The style is lighter and more immediate than appellation-level wines, while still reflecting northern Rhône character.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep ruby with purple hues
Nose: Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and plum, with notes of black pepper, violet, and subtle spice
Palate: Medium-bodied, with fresh dark fruit flavours, fine tannins, and bright acidity; hints of spice and mineral notes add complexity
Finish: Clean and lively, with lingering fruit, pepper, and a lightly savoury edge
