History

Holding some of the most desirable scotches in all of Scotland, Campbeltown has rebuilt its reputation after a fall in favour throughout the 1920’s. Once flooded with over 30 distilleries on the modest island, a diminished quality of spirit from several distilleries overlapped with the Prohibition and the Great Depression. These factors combined led to mass closures throughout the region. By the 1930’s only 2 of the 30+ distilleries remained; Glen Scotia and Springbank.Β  Glengyle, a distillery with a history dating to 1872, reopened in 2004 after pressure from the Scotch Whisky Association to either expand the region or become absorbed by the Highlands.Β
