Château La Pointe 2021, Pomerol

Château La Pointe is one of the largest wine estates in Pomerol, making a Merlot-dominant wine. It dates back to 1845, and has been controlled by the dArfeuille family since 1941. 2021 was a year which demanded the full attention of the team of winegrowers. Climatic conditions were unpredictable, it took a lot of determination to maintain the cultivation routes without abandoning environmental commitments. Frost, mildew, nothing spared the teams who showed incredible commitment. Their experience and expertise are at the origin of the success of this rather late vintage. After the harvest, we had to know how to vinify this vintage accurately to find the right balance, favor gentle extractions, and favor the finesse of the tannins. The final product is a beautifully bright, intense crimson colour. After swirling, there are pure aromas of red fruit, quickly enveloped in notes of violet. The palate is juicy, energetic and precise. Smooth tannins bring a pleasant velvety sensation. The oak, discreet and well-integrated, completes the already rich aromatic palette. There is a feeling of freshness and elegance throughout. Expert Tasting Notes: It has a light but well-defined bouquet with graphite infused red fruit (that trait is accentuated in a bottle tasted at the château). Quite elegant in style. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, pretty red fruit and just a touch of piquancy on the finish. - Neal Martin, 90-92 Points 82% Merlot & 18% Cabernet Franc
