Château Lagrange 2021, Saint-Julien

Château Lagrange is a well-regarded wine estate based in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Haut-Médoc region, north of Bordeaux city on the so-called left bank of the Gironde estuary. The estate was classified as a third growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves. Its eponymous grand vin regularly receives high ratings and critical praise. The total rainfall recorded in 2021 was lower than the average of the past 25 years. It is interesting to note that temperatures remained cool throughout the growth cycle, a vital element for maintaining balance in the wines. The resulting wine is dark red colour with a crimson tint. Aromatic notes of red fruit, such as strawberry or raspberry. The attack is supple and fleshy. With 84% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, the tannic structure is powerful yet elegant. The harmony that reigns throughout promises a large drinking window. Expert Tasting Notes: The 2021 Lagrange is a strong effort, offering up notes of dark berries, pencil shavings, licorice and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated palate with lively acids and youthfully structuring tannins that assert themselves on the finish, reflecting the record-high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. This is one 2021 that will reward a bit of patience. Drink 2027-2045. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate - 93 Points 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot
