Chateau Beaucastel 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge

Chateau Beaucastel 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge

Now at 15 years after the vintage, the 2007 Châteauneuf Du Pape is firmly in its prime drink window and is just about overflowing with character. Sweet black raspberries, red plums, incense, herbes de Provence, leather, and lavender all carry incredible intensity and richness, and this gives way to a full-bodied Beaucastel with the classic 2007 opulence - Jeb Dunnuck

Chateau Beaucastel 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge

The 2007 vintage in the southern Rhône is widely regarded as one of the best of the modern era. A warm and exceptionally dry growing season with ample sunshine and cool nights created ideal conditions for even, concentrated ripening across all 13 permitted grape varieties. Harvest was early and conducted under perfect conditions, with no disease pressure and excellent grape health. Beaucastel, known for its high proportion of Mourvèdre, benefitted especially from the long ripening window, producing a wine of depth, structure, and extraordinary aging potential. Wines from this vintage are noted for their powerful fruit, freshness, and harmonious balance, and the 2007 Beaucastel exemplifies this profile.

Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions:
The 2007 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a benchmark southern Rhône wine from an exceptional vintage. Now beautifully mature, it opens with an intense bouquet of dried red and black fruits, leather, garrigue (wild herbs), cedar, and truffle. The palate is rich and layered, showcasing flavors of fig, black cherry, tobacco leaf, and smoked meat, interwoven with hints of licorice, savory spice, and earthy minerality. The tannins are fully integrated and silky, supporting a long, graceful finish with lingering notes of sweet spice, mature plum, and gamey complexity. A wine at its peak or just beyond, showing both opulence and finesse.
Serve at around 17–18°C (63–65°F) in large Bordeaux or Rhône-style glasses to capture its aromatic intensity and evolved complexity. As it is now well-aged, no extended decanting is needed, though 30–45 minutes of air can help it fully unfurl. This mature Châteauneuf-du-Pape pairs beautifully with slow-braised lamb, duck confit, game meats, wild mushroom dishes, or herb-crusted pork loin.
