Chapoutier 2022 Les Meysonniers Crozes Hermitage Rouge

Chapoutier 2022 Les Meysonniers Crozes Hermitage Rouge

A well-crafted, crunchy and pulpy northern syrah. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Juicy, crushed dark cherry character with aromas of dark cherries, wild herbs and black pepper. There is a transparent character, with a kick of spices toward the peppery finish. - James Suckling

Chapoutier 2022 Les Meysonniers Crozes Hermitage Rouge

The 2022 vintage in the Northern Rhône was characterized by a hot, dry growing season that led to low yields and concentrated fruit. However, Chapoutier’s organically and biodynamically managed vineyards, particularly in Crozes-Hermitage, benefited from deep-rooted vines and careful canopy management to maintain freshness. Cool nighttime temperatures helped preserve acidity and aromatic lift, and harvest timing was critical to retain balance. The result: vibrant, expressive wines with both ripe fruit and signature Northern Rhône savory nuances.

Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions:
The 2022 Les Meysonniers opens with lifted aromas of violet, blackberry, black olive, and a hint of peppery spice. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with a juicy, elegant texture, featuring flavors of plum, crushed raspberry, licorice, and herbes de Provence. Notes of graphite, smoke, and roasted meat provide savory complexity, while silky tannins and vibrant acidity keep the wine fresh and food-friendly. The finish is smooth, with lingering spice and subtle earth.
Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) after deecanting for 30–45 minutes when young to unlock its full aromatic range. Ideal food pairings include grilled lamb chops, roast duck, ratatouille, lentils with sausage, or mushroom stew. Enjoy now for its brightness or cellar for 5–8 years to develop more earthy and spicy complexity.
