Lagg Small Batch Manzanilla Sherry Cask

Produced at Lagg Distillery on the Isle of Arran, this Small Batch release highlights the distillery's commitment to crafting heavily peated single malts that contrast with the fruit-forward style of its sister distillery, Lochranza. Opened in 2019, Lagg represents the return of peated whisky production to the southern end of Arran and focuses on creating robust island malts inspired by Scotland's historic whisky traditions. This expression was initially matured in first-fill bourbon barrels before being finished in rare Manzanilla sherry casks sourced from Spain's coastal Andalusian region. The influence of these casks adds a distinctive dry, saline character that complements Lagg's earthy peat smoke and coastal spirit profile.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Aromas of bonfire smoke, sea breeze, lemon peel, green apple, toasted almonds, fresh bread dough, and subtle herbal notes emerge alongside hints of salted caramel and coastal minerality.

Palate: Rich and oily with layers of earthy peat, citrus zest, salted nuts, orchard fruit, black pepper, vanilla cream, and savoury Manzanilla character balanced by gentle sweetness and maritime salinity.

Finish: Long and lingering with drying smoke, sea salt, toasted oak, cracked pepper, citrus oils, and a subtle nuttiness that gradually fades into warming peat embers.
