EVAN’S NOTES
Hailing from a small (compared to the vineyard of Chateau De Beaucastel) 30 hectare vineyard to the east across the A7 highway from the Vineyard of the highly sought after Chateau De Beaucastel comes the hidden gem of Coudoulet de Beaucastel. Planted mainly to Mourvedre Syrah and Cincault. This little CDR Blend comes in at a 1/3rd of the price of the Main wine and certainly over delivers for that price. The Vineyardis littered with “galets Roules” that are part of What Makes Chateauneuf Du Pape so highly Respected. These are round moderate sized river stones that collect heat through the day and radiate that heat back into the vineyard to help develop the vine and fruit throughout the growing season. If you are looking for an introduction to Châteauneuf du Pape or a very high quality Cotes Du Rhone blend look no further.
The 2019 Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a deep ruby in hue With a bouquet of Rich Red fruits. Predominantly plum and cherries with a light hint of red liquorice and floral tones. On the palate the wine is bursting with red fruits layered with cedar wood and spice. The wine is beautifully balanced with supple tannin, fresh acidity and a medium body. The Finish is long and with the more savory notes lingering the longest. This is a fantastic bottle of Wine that well deserves the moniker of “Baby Beaucastel” We have both the Chateau De Beaucastel and the Coudoulet available in the 2019 Vintage.
