Amatitena Tequila Extra Anejo

Amatitena Tequila Extra Anejo

A deeply aged yet distinctly agave-forward tequila, Amatiteña Extra Añejo combines old-school production with an unconventional mix of bourbon and red wine casks. Rich cooked agave, caramel, dark fruit, tobacco, chocolate, and seasoned oak meet the subtle smoky character created by Amatiteña’s wood-fired production, resulting in a complex Extra Añejo that never loses sight of its agave roots.

Amatitena Tequila Extra Anejo

Amatiteña Tequila Extra Añejo is produced at NOM 1477 in Amatitán, Jalisco, under Maestro Tequilero Alberto Partida. The brand takes its name from Amatitán, a historic tequila-producing community in the Tequila Valley, and focuses on traditional, highly artisanal methods. Production is deliberately rustic. Mature agaves are cooked in a direct, mesquite wood-fired oven without steam, then crushed with a tahona. Fermentation takes place open-air with the agave fibres in wooden vats, using naturally occurring ambient yeast. The fermented juice is then twice distilled in historic wood-fired copper pot stills dating to the 19th century.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Wet cedar, caramel, fresh vanilla bean, candied plum, eucalyptus, and dry clay lead into smoke, cooked agave, leather, tobacco, and warm barrel spice.

Palate: Rich cooked agave remains surprisingly prominent alongside roasted sweet potato, pineapple, pomegranate, caramel, oak, chocolate, cherry tobacco, honey, and warming spice. The wine and bourbon casks add richness without completely masking the earthy, smoky character of the spirit.

Finish: Dry, earthy, and persistent with white pepper, smoky char, tobacco, seasoned oak, cinnamon, and lingering cooked agave.
