Benromach Virgin Oak 2013

Produced at Benromach Distillery in Forres, Speyside, this 2013 vintage forms part of the distillery's innovative Contrasts series, designed to demonstrate how different cask types shape the same spirit. Founded in 1898 and owned by Gordon & MacPhail since 1993, Benromach has built its reputation on traditional whisky-making methods, including lightly peated malt, long fermentations, and slow distillation. Unlike the distillery's classic style, which is matured in a combination of first-fill bourbon and sherry casks, the Virgin Oak expression spends its full 10-year maturation in specially crafted American virgin oak hogsheads. The oak is air-dried before being coopered in Speyside and gently charred, contributing vibrant vanilla sweetness, tropical fruit notes, and rich oak spice while complementing Benromach's signature touch of smoke. Bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration, it offers a fascinating exploration of oak's influence on mature Speyside whisky.

Tasting Notes
Nose: Fragrant dried banana, freshly squeezed lemon, soft vanilla fudge, honeyed malt, and gentle oak mingle with subtle wisps of smoke.

Palate: Bright Seville orange zest leads into rich butterscotch, creamy vanilla, toasted oak, tropical fruit, and Benromach's signature smooth smoke.
