Biondi Santi Rosso di Montalcino 2021

The 2021 growing season in Montalcino is widely regarded as an excellent vintage, marked by a warm, balanced summer and optimal ripening conditions for Sangiovese. Healthy fruit and steady maturation produced grapes with concentration, freshness, and well-defined structure. At Biondi-Santi’s Tenuta Greppo estate, the Rosso di Montalcino is crafted from 100% estate-grown Sangiovese and made with the same meticulous care as the estate’s Brunello. Fermentation takes place with extended skin contact to build structure and aromatic complexity, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak casks for a shorter period than Brunello. This traditional approach emphasizes purity of fruit, vibrant acidity, and the unmistakable character of Greppo’s historic vineyards, while allowing the wine to be enjoyed earlier than its Brunello counterpart.

The 2021 Biondi-Santi Rosso di Montalcino shows bright, lifted aromas of fresh cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry layered with hints of violet, dried herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is energetic and finely structured, offering red berry fruit, touches of orange peel, and gentle earthy undertones supported by lively acidity and polished tannins. Elegant and expressive, it balances youthful vibrancy with the estate’s signature refinement. Approachable upon release yet capable of graceful development, it is best enjoyed from 2024 through 2032.
