Brancaia 2021 Ilatraia

Brancaia is a highly regarded Tuscan producer founded by the Widmer family, known for combining modern winemaking with a strong focus on terroir and precision. While the estate is best known for its Chianti Classico wines, Ilatraia comes from Brancaia’s vineyards in the Maremma along the Tuscan coast.

The 2021 vintage in Tuscany is considered exceptional, producing wines with concentration, balance, and strong ageing potential. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented separately in temperature-controlled tanks before ageing in French oak barrels, a significant portion of which are new. The wine undergoes extended maturation to integrate tannins and develop complexity.

Nose: Aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, cocoa, tobacco, and Mediterranean herbs
Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with concentrated dark fruit, polished tannins, and vibrant acidity; flavours of cassis, dark chocolate, spice, and mineral notes add depth and complexity
Finish: Long and refined, with lingering dark fruit, savoury spice, and elegant oak integration
