Chapoutier 2022 La Bernardine Chateauneuf du Pape

The 2022 vintage in the Southern Rhône was shaped by a warm, dry growing season with minimal disease pressure. Early-season rains provided enough water reserves to carry the vines through a hot summer, while cool nights in August preserved aromatic freshness. Grenache, the dominant variety in La Bernardine, reached full phenolic maturity, producing wines with ripe fruit concentration, smooth tannins, and excellent balance. Overall, 2022 delivered approachable yet cellar-worthy Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions:
Aromas of black raspberry, plum compote, and kirsch, lifted by notes of garrigue herbs, lavender, and warm spice. The palate is full-bodied and supple, showing layers of dark berry fruit, fig, and licorice, accented by hints of black olive and smoked pepper. Silky tannins and fresh acidity provide balance, leading to a long, savory finish with a touch of minerality.
Serve at 17–18°C (63–65°F) in large Burgundy or Rhône-style glasses to highlight its aromatic complexity and plush texture. Decant for 45–60 minutes if drinking young to fully open the bouquet. Best paired with herb-crusted lamb, duck confit, ratatouille, or aged Comté. This wine will show beautifully in its youth but has the structure to age gracefully for 10–12 years
