Chateau La Nerthe 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

Chateau La Nerthe 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

I loved the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc, an absolute banging white that has ripe citrus and honeyed, spicy nuances in its medium-bodied, wonderfully pure, focused profile. A blend of 44% Roussanne, 41% Grenache Blanc, 11% Clairette, and 4% Bourboulenc, it shows the softer style of the vintage and brings plenty of fruit while staying balanced, focused, and light on its feet. It’s a brilliant wine. - Jeb Dunnuck

Chateau La Nerthe 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

The 2023 vintage began with a mild, very dry winter followed by beneficial rains in late spring that supported vineyard growth. Summer was hot and dry, with moderate water stress, but mid-August heat was mitigated by cooler periods and some rainfall. Grapes were hand-picked fully ripe, with attention to precision and plot selection. The blend is 44% Roussanne, 41% Grenache Blanc, 11% Clairette, and 4% Bourboulenc. Vinification is in a mix of French oak barrels, demi-muids, and stainless steel with aging on the lees for about nine months.

Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions:
Pale golden color with green hints. Aromas of lemon, pear, almond, honeysuckle, and jasmine combine with floral nuances like fresh flowers and citrus blossom. On the palate it’s full-bodied yet balanced, showing flavors of yellow citrus, Williams pear, and a touch of minerality and sweet spices. The finish is long, silky, with persistent citrus and a refreshing, slightly minty note.
Serve well chilled at 10-12 °C (50-54 °F) in white wine glasses to highlight its aromatic richness. Decanting is optional but 30 minutes can help open up the floral and spice notes. This wine shines with seafood such as scallops or sea bream, creamy risottos, or delicate white meat dishes. Enjoy now for its freshness, or cellar through 2029-2032 to let more richness develop.
