Christophe Semaska 2014 Chateau de Montlys Cote Rotie

Christophe Semaska’s 2014 Château de Montlys Côte-Rôtie is crafted from steep, terraced vineyards on the northern Rhône’s famed schist slopes, where low yields and meticulous vineyard work drive concentration and finesse. The 2014 vintage offered cooler conditions and a longer growing season, resulting in wines of freshness, aromatic precision, and refined structure. Fermentation is carried out with traditional methods, often incorporating whole clusters to enhance aromatic complexity and texture. Gentle extraction preserves elegance, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels—largely older barrels—to refine tannins and add subtle spice while allowing the purity of Syrah and the character of Côte-Rôtie to shine.

Tasting Notes:
The nose is expressive and layered, revealing aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, and violet, accented by notes of cracked pepper, smoked meat, and olive tapenade. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with a silky, finely structured texture, combining dark fruit flavors with savory, mineral-driven nuances. Fresh acidity and polished tannins carry through to a long, nuanced finish marked by spice, floral lift, and the distinctive elegance of Côte-Rôtie.
